Book Coaching

Are you writing a book? Spend an hour with me planning your project, busting through blocks, or picking my brain about the self-publishing process. It’s up to you!

During your book coaching session we’ll meet 1:1 via Zoom to discuss whatever part of the writing and publishing process you’re currently in. These are productive working sessions, and I’m glad to help you in whatever way I can.

I’ve worked with authors on all types of projects. From poetry and memoir to children’s books and self-help, I can help you navigate the murky waters of publishing and get your writing project feeling fun again.

I adore working with authors and can’t wait to hear about your project.

During our sessions we can cover:

Planning/outlining your book

I am a big-picture thinker who loves to look at things from 30,000 feet. Plotting is one of my favorite pastimes, and I can help you organize your thoughts into an actionable outline that makes the writing part feel doable and clear. I have experience coaching authors through both fiction and nonfiction planning.

NAVIGATING the self-publishing process

As a self-published author myself, I know how daunting the writing and publishing process can be. I have published with both IngramSpark and Kindle Direct Publishing and can guide you through the ins and outs of both. We can also use your book coaching time to upload your book together via shared screen on Zoom. I know how valuable it can be to have someone there to hold your hand and cheer you on when you get to that point in the publishing process.

CREATING A book marketing PLAN

These days even traditionally-published authors are being charged with marketing their own books. I love helping authors create fun, doable, marketing plans to promote their beautiful books and celebrate the culmination of all their hard work. Some of my strengths include crafting enticing book descriptions and helping authors find unique ways to think smaller while making a bigger impact.

PROVIDING writing accountability and cheerleading

Sometimes all we need is someone to help us feel seen and heard, especially in the midst of a huge writing project, and I am here for you. I love meeting with authors to discuss their writing, hear how they’re feeling, and support them through mental and energetic blocks. The writing life can feel a bit solitary and insular at times, and book coaching sessions can offer the perfect antidote to that.

Why Work With Me

Fortunately there are lots of book coaches, editors, and self-publishing consultants to choose from these days, and it’s important to find someone who’s a good fit for your personality and your project.

I adore working with heart-centered, motivated women who value feeling seen and heard and who vibe with an intuitive approach. I love leaning on my intuition when supporting authors and using my 10+ years in energetics to help them connect with clarity. Allowing someone to read your draft for the first time can be an incredibly vulnerable experience, and I prioritize holding a safe space for authors to confidently share their work.

If you’re looking for a certified word nerd to have your back, you’ve found her. I was that kid in 7th grade who loved diagramming sentences and hoped every assignment would be a research paper. I was editor-in-chief of both my middle school newspaper and my high school yearbook, and I earned a bachelor’s degree in screenwriting and film studies from the University of Texas. I have kept a blog for the last 16 years simply because I love writing.

Professionally I have freelanced for 20 years as a small business copywriter and copyeditor. I’ve published with Elephant Journal, written multiple online courses, worked as a book coach and editor for a well-known self-publishing course, and published three of my own books, two of which won book awards. I also worked in sales and fundraising for 10 years where I crafted marketing materials, press releases, and other business communications.

I understand what it means to hear the call to write, and I love working with people who have also heard that call and who know that their book is ready to be born. I am especially passionate about women’s issues with a personal interest in books that deal with self-acceptance and overcoming body image issues. I believe that our stories matter, and I consider it an honor to help them come to life.

My expertise and insight are in the self-publishing world. While I’m happy to edit or proofread manuscripts intended for traditional publishing, I tailor my book coaching to the self-publishing world. I have experience acquiring ISBNs, publishing with both IngramSpark and KDP, and crafting marketing plans based on the indie author’s needs.
